Back to February, 2016: The Big Bang!

Ah! Civilization! Wickenburg, AZ
Today I start recounting my earlier adventures on the road since I left off with my last post from Quartzsite, AZ at the end of January, 2016. Yes, I really dropped off the planet after my reports of boondocking in Quartzsite for the big annual RV show there in the desert. (To read my earlier posts, please click on the January and/or February 2016 archives on the right side of this page.)

Home Again!!
I finally made it home on April 14 from my stint in rehab in San Diego after breaking my ankle on April 1. I flew non-stop from San Diego to Albuquerque, and did just fine. I have had a house sitter who took care of my house while I’m on the road. He is a member of our camera club, and a good friend. He picked me up at the airport with one of the wheelchairs of Bob’s that I still have not gotten rid of…thank goodness. Since the house he was renting was sold, he has stayed here, and been a great help. (Although as time passes, we both wish I were on the road again!) The motorhome arrived undamaged on April 15, as did my new knee scooter. My friends and neighbors here in Albuquerque have been totally wonderful and so supportive.

The Routine
I’ve been in the care center for several days now. Today was omelet morning, so I asked if I could go down to the dining room. I was treated to a ride in a wheel chair—whoo hoo! The omelet was delicious. I was delighted!

San Diego, California
It is amazing how much goes on when you are admitted or discharged from a medical facility. Such is the case at the Pomerado Hospital in San Diego, where I have come after breaking my ankle on a hike on April Fools Day. (Ironic, isn’t it) For both the admission and the discharge,, an entire troupe of players parades in and out: papers to sign, evaluations to be given, diet preferences to be explained, etc., etc.! It wears a cripple out!

After the trauma of breaking my ankle the day before (see the previous episode: “An April Fools Day Whoops”) I sleep well, despite the usual noise of a hospital. I’m glad my surgery is first thing on Sunday morning because I’m hungry! (But of course!) Isn’t it amazing that the surgeon works on Sunday morning?! The surgeon soon arrives and describes that he is going to put a metal plate and screws on each side of my ankle, because the ankle bones on each side of my foot are broken from the tibia and fibula. I don’t quite catch what is to happen with the third break-something regarding the “distal” position…
OK, fine…let’s get this over with.

Well, I’m falling back on my promise to update by going back to spring, 2016. Geez, what a non-blogger I’ve turned out to be! I think you may just have to put up with my intermittent posts, and jumping around with the dates… Send me your comments if my time-line gets too confusing. So, as you can see from the date at the top, this post is from April, 2017. You’ll see why I thought I should add this post now.

Reports of my demise as a blogger are exaggerated, although not by much! I am well and back on the road! Yea!

It was a dark and snowy night… well, make that; it was a dark, windy and rainy night. The sound of the pelting rain on the motorhome is fierce but magical. But never mind all that literary jargon: IT’S POPCORN NIGHT!

Each afternoon we experience a fun “happy hour” activity. Yesterday was a wine tasting with lots of delicious appetizers. Mmmmm! We all chatted, compared stories, experiences. “Old Timers” were glad to welcome us “Newcomers.”

I spent the last two weeks of January, 2016 literally out in the boonies. I was boondocking with the Boomers Escapees group in Quartzsite, Arizona. Boondocking means that we were camping without electric or water hook-ups. You bring in what you need in water, and you use your batteries and generator for electricity.
